jetstar flight delayed after passenger turns violent over mask request

A passenger had to be removed from a Sydney to Victoria flight after he became violent at requests to wear a mask.

The incident unfolded aboard the JQ613 Sydney to Avalon flight as it prepared to depart about 1pm on Saturday.

The passenger refused to wear a mask despite multiple requests from staff to comply with the rules and stay on the flight.

He then became violent and began using abusive language, prompting the airline to call in Australian Federal Police to help remove him from the aircraft for his disruptive behaviour.

The plane had to return to the gate to offload the passenger and eventually departed 40 minutes behind schedule.

“A passenger refused to follow crew instructions before the departure of a flight from Sydney to Avalon on Saturday,” a Jetstar spokesman said.

“The passenger became disruptive and so the AFP were called to assist.

“The safety of our customers and crew is our number one priority, and we do not tolerate any kind of abusive behaviour.”
