Christmas may not seem like the most appealing time to travel abroad for some, but for others, the chance to escape the UK’s cold weather is a priority. England’s current lockdown has meant that many people are now stuck indoors planning their next trip overseas – and for many that could be as soon as December. Now, travel agent Skyscanner has revealed that customers can make some big savings within Europe next month.
Hostelworld recently revealed that Athens was also the most popular destination for post-pandemic holidays.
The Greek capital is the UK’s most searched for destination since the pandemic began, according to data from Hostelworld today.
Searches for stays in the city increased by 400 percent from April to October 2020.
Other popular metropolitan destinations featured in the most searched for travel locations include: Stockholm, which experienced a 371 percent increase in searches through Hostelworld; Milan, which saw a 174 percent increase in searches; and Edinburgh, which came in fourth with a 140 percent increase.
The data suggests that travellers are now looking to stay closer to home once travel restrictions are potentially eased next year.
Gavin Harris, Commercial Director at Skyscanner exclusively told Express.co.uk that Christmas prices are usually higher due to demand, but fares are still cheaper this year.
He said: “Flight prices are historically always affected by seasonality supply and demand, especially during peak seasons such as Christmas.
“Recently we’ve seen providers looking to stimulate bookings with attractive pricing and flexible booking policies.
