As a result of the pandemic, travel restrictions and consistent virus outbreaks, Spain received the visit of a million international tourists in October, 86.6 per cent less than in the same month in 2019.
With the sharp decline in October, the data shows there have been eight consecutive months of decreases in the number of international tourists visiting Spain, with some countries viewing COVID outbreaks in Madrid and other highly infected cities, as reasons to adopt stricter restrictions on travel to the country.
The INE has also reported that the amount of money spent by foreign tourists reached €862 million in October, a figure 89.7 per cent lower than in the same month in 2019.
