The eight season of Paramount Network’s Bar Rescue has Executive Producer and Host Jon Taffer in Las Vegas, helping independent bars deal not only with their usual problems, but now also having to bounce back after a pandemic. I spoke with Taffer about the new season, and his own history with cocktails.
What can we expect from this season of Bar Rescue?
The bar business has been decimated, but what no one is saying is that the owners and their families have also been decimated. This year of Bar Rescue is the most important and the most personal. We’re doing it in Las Vegas, the most impacted city by the pandemic. It’s a single industry economy — hospitality — there’s no diversity and the impact is massive. Focussing on getting the independent bars back on their feet is very emotional to me.
My father drank Crown Royal. A little bit on the rocks with a ginger ale back. I guess we’re all influenced by my parents, so my first shot was Crown Royal, in my mid-20s.
I didn’t drink when I was younger, and candidly I’m not a big drinker now. It’s like when they say a pharmacist shouldn’t get into drugs…
