Nicolas-Jay winery and tasting room in Willamette Valley’s Dundee Hills
You’ll never have to suffer through cheesy “muzak” or generic background instrumentals as you taste through the Pinots at Nicolas-Jay’s just-opened tasting room. That’s because the winery claims something exceptionally rare in the wine world: a rock ‘n’ roll pedigree.
Before Californian Jay Boberg partnered with French-born Jean-Nicolas Méo to co-found the winery in Willamette Valley’s Dundee Hills, Boberg spent four decades fostering the careers of artists ranging from R.E.M. to Mary J. Méo, whose family owns Burgundy’s renowned Domaine Méo-Camuzet, was studying abroad in the States and met the music entrepreneur in 1988. The two forged a friendship built on shared philosophies on life, music, and wine — especially Pinot Noir from Willamette Valley. Méo soon returned to France and immersed himself in the family winemaking business, eventually taking the reins from his father, and Boberg continued building IRS.
Despite living on two different continents, the friendship continued…
