“There was plenty to do!” says Sallie Hendry after purchasing a Scottish castle, owned by the same family for the last 900 years, with her husband. Called Blair Estate, the property dates as far back as 1105 (remains of the original building are still visible), and most recently, it was a hospitality venue. Hendry  (formerly the Business Development Director of the world-famous Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park in London), however, is implementing grander plans of creating a five-star hotel experience on the estate—garnering the attention of Regency-era drama, Bridgerton, fans everywhere.

“As Blair is our private home,” says Hendry, “we wanted it to feel warm, welcoming, and for our guests to feel it is also their home while staying here.” To do so took a whole lot of re-wiring, 20,000 square feet of carpet, and seemingly endless rolls of Colefax and Fowler wallpaper. The original stone flags and wooden floors, however, remained untouched. 

Sitting within 250 acres of its own landscaped land, the estate has plenty to explore—inside and outside of the castle. With nearly every perspective facing gardens (32 acres of them) or woodland, the property  boasts a stunning drawing room, orangery-style conservatory, old bothy in a walled garden, and plenty more…
