What Designer Todd Snyder Recommends In Maine

As his menswear label attests, designer Todd Snyder has a “distinct New York sensibility.” In other words, he’s not from Maine. And on one of his trips to the Pine Tree State, locals made sure he knew it. “I learned that if you’re from Maine, you’re called a ‘Maine-ah,’” he says, “If you’re not, you’re ‘From Away.’” But as someone labeled ‘From Away,’ Snyder picked up a lot along the way. Here are some of his favorite places, activities, and fashions in Maine.

The Places

“I love Hidden Pond in Kennebunkport. I was so taken aback by the beauty of that property.” Snyder loves the award-winning enclave so much, in fact, that he designed an exclusive suite on the property. And its farm-to-fork restaurant, Earth, should not be overlooked—it’s also where Barbara Bush celebrated her rehearsal dinner with her family.

Corey Daniels Gallery—a 6,000-square-foot emporium of contemporary art, antiques, and more—in Wells is another favorite. “We sourced a lot of pieces for the Hidden Pond suite from his collection,” he says.

Snyder also recommends Musette by Jonathan Cartwright as “a great restaurant for a casual lunch” with hearty American cuisine. And for cocktail hour? Snyder will be at brewery and distillery Batson River Tasting Room.
